Chaplaincy
CHA-402
This course will equip students to be aware of different types of chaplaincies and the role of chaplains can play in the healing and restoration process of the community.
Christian Marriage
CHM-402
There are thousands of resources available to help couples within marriage. The goal of this module is to equip the caregiver with definitions and maps of how Biblical marriage is defined and how couples can understand some key points in aligning their relationship within this framework.
Crisis and Trauma Intervention
In this module, several areas of needs-based care will be addressed as the caregiver relates to the whole person. Balancing love and action, bearing burdens while setting boundaries, and crisis coping mechanisms will be addressed. The ABCs of crisis intervention will also be included to give the caregiver a toolbox for critical incident stress management.
The tragedy of trauma and abuse will be a presenting factor in multiple forms for those seeking care and will need to be competently understood by the caregiver. Knowing the signs, symptoms, and precipitating causes is an essential learning component for a caregiver’s ability to give correct support and understanding. Content will also be presented within this module on the mind-body connection or neurobiology of stress and trauma.
Human Sexuality
HSX-302
This module will include increased knowledge of the biological, developmental, and scientific aspects of human sexuality and developing a greater awareness of self and others.
Learning to Learn
L2L-402
This course covers the basics of parts of speech, tenses, sentence structure, and paragraph structure. Students will learn to discuss, understand, apply, and analyse concepts of sentence/paragraph structure, types of writing, editing/rewriting, and reading comprehension. rs.
Ethics
ETH-402
The protocols for setting up a caregiving ministry must be clearly established. This will be the framework of decisions dealing with privacy, accountability, need for referral, and protection of caregivers both in dealing with the community and in avoiding compassion fatigue.
Loss, Grief and Bereavement
LGB-402
This course will explore ministry-based responses to loss, grief, and bereavement. Pastoral counselling and mental health models designed for ministry contexts across all phases of the grief process will be determined. Particular attention will be given to the spiritual challenges and resources that can impact grieving and its outcomes.
Mood Disorders
MDI-402
The most common reason that people seek help is to deal with what they often label as anxiety, depression, loss, grief, guilt, or anger. The caregiver must be able to help people understand why and how to define these feelings and how to find coping mechanisms which will be effective in either managing or rewriting their life scripts. Also integrated into this module will be a protocol for assessing suicide risk.
Organizing a Counseling Ministry
ORG-402
This module will cover guidelines for establishing an ethical and effective lay-helping ministry in the church. The selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of lay helpers will be described and discussed.
Parenting and Blended Families
PBF-402
The most important concept to be understood as parents is that parenting is an evolving process which needs to be carefully monitored and assessed. A caregiver can be in the position of assisting parents to define and hopefully agree on parenting styles, managing family conflict, setting boundaries, and methods of discipline. The goal of parenting is really discipleship of those in our care.
Relationships
REL-402
This module will help learners to understand their own security in Christ as they are then able to help others with their connections to the community and to God. Decision-making and problem-solving will also be addressed in the context of the Learning Style Profile.
Supervision Course
SUP-402
This course is constructed to solidify what students have already learned and to continue their learning with more information. Students will meet weekly with their Supervisor to discuss their clients and get feedback about their counselling skills.
The Process of Change and Healing
PCH-402
Change is difficult. Healing takes time. The goal of this module is to give vocabulary to these two processes. Recovery, confession, restoration, transformation, forgiveness, and learning to let go. Giving up control and handing it all over to God is necessary but often not achieved.
The Search for Significance
SFS-402
A key to being an effective caregiver is a personal understanding of self-identity. The questions of where one stands in relation to God and community need to have answers. Guilt, shame, punishment, and hopelessness need to be defined within the walking in light solution based on God-identity.
