This course provides a comprehensive foundation for the experiential application and the practice of basic counselling skills. Emphasis is on the core skills and techniques such as attending, paraphrasing, reflecting, summarizing and questioning. Students also learn how to integrate counselling skills and techniques with the Christian faith.

A continuation of Counseling Skills I, with an emphasis on core skills and techniques of confrontation, goal planning, and termination.

An introduction to adaptive techniques is introduced through the study of the theories.
Counselling Theories

A basic introduction to the main theorists and how their work provides a framework for understanding certain aspects of human behaviour and development.
Effective Listening and Communication Skills
ELC-402
An introduction to communication skills and how they affect caregiving is an essential knowledge need. Men’s and women’s styles compared, listening as an art, barriers to communication, and the role of trust and safety will all be addressed.
Supervision Course
SUP-402
This course is constructed to solidify what students have already learned and to continue their learning with more information. Students will meet weekly with their Supervisor to discuss their clients and get feedback about their counselling skills.
